The History of Frisbee

People always seem to remember their firsts – first word spoken, first step, tooth, love, and many other firsts. This is also true with the many inventions of man. If you are interested in Frisbee, then you are most likely interested in its history. Who created Frisbee? When was it first played and by whom?

The Frisbee that many people know nowadays wasn't the very same Frisbee that was thrown and enjoyed in years past. The design is incredibly ingenius and it started not as a plastic material toy. Back then, it was believed that students played Frisbee by using pie tins. The design of the Frisbee evolved through the many years until it finally developed with the plastic design.

Way back then, Frisbee has a different spelling but it seemed to be pronounced the same way. It was spelled Frisbie and it was taken from a company name and a individual's name. The Frisbie Baking Company was a especially popular pie-producing business that delivered to most of the school and university campuses in New England. The pie company operated from 1871 to 1958 and the pies were put in pie tins with the name of the company at the bottom of the tin.

Given that the students really loved their pies, many were eating it and so they were being left with tons of pie tins. The students were able to come up with a pastime they often called ‘frisbie-ing’ and the pie tins were in turn called ‘frisbie’. In one of the campuses, there was as well a student called Elihu Frisbie which competed with tray assortments (using it similar to Frisbee) on the school property. Some say that Frisbee was already originated from his surname.

Walter Frederick Morrison completed a novel version of the pie tins and made a plastic Frisbee yet he didn't call it by the name originated by the college students. In its place, he named it Pluto-platter mainly because during that time, UFOs were very accepted and intriguing. Certainly, his Pluto-platter was a certain hit and a lot of people favored it. Later on, he had it patented by the moniker Morrison Slope.

The Pluto-platter grew to be extremely popular as a toy and Wham-O got an fascination in it. They persuaded Morrison to sell his rights and following that, the business fashioned the toy and referred to it by the same name. The sales turned down after numerous years and the business desired to re-introduce it to the market. They conducted extensive research about the toy up to the time when they finally arrived to know that it was firstly called Frisbee.

At what time they finally decided to re-introduce Pluto-platter, they labeled it Frisbie and it was accepted as a sporting activity or recreational entertainment. They referred to the game ‘frisbei-ing’ yet at present, it is already called ultimate Frisbee. Wham-O was also the one who adjusted ‘frisbie’ to Frisbee so that they could avoid possible lawsuits or any legality in the future.

If people try to analyze it, there is no exact date or a certain creator. The years mentioned and the companies and persons involved are all a piece of the sport’s progress. The background tells so much regarding the Frisbee and you will learn a lot from it. You can’t overlook any of the companies or individuals involved in the Frisbee evolution given that if one of them is omitted, Frisbee will not be alive today.

In order to better know Frisbee, people must first know about its heritage. Now that you know its vibrant background, you will surely enjoy enjoying it with your friends.
